Darbukabeat: the sound of Moroccan Trance
A band that fuses the songs and rhythms of North Africa with trance, acid jazz and psychedelia
Darbukabeat has been described as the sound of Moroccan Trance. They made their debut on the festival circuit in 2014 and the fusion of traditional Gnawa rhythms and improvisation made them as at home in the dance tent as on the world music stage.
This band is the result of many years of playing Moroccan and Gnawan music, with Nomos and Maghribibeat, popular with Tom Robinson on BBC6Music. Abe (darbuka) and Creedy (guitar) have now joined forces with Simon Partridge (guitar), Les Gillon (bass) and Mo Lindley (darbuka) to form what is now Darbukabeat.
Based in Hebden Bridge, Darbukabeat continues to wow packed dance-hungry audiences with their heady trance grooves and rhythms, responding to the energy of the dancers creating a truly unique, symbiotic dance experience. A true festival classic, the band look forward to expanding their reach into more festivals, clubs and venues around the country.
