Returning to the live fray after an absence of over 30 YEARS the ORIGINAL LINEUP of Scottish psychedelic punk rockers THE SOUP DRAGONS.SEAN DICKSON, ROSS SINCLAIR, SUSHIL K DADE and JIM McCULLOCH are returning to play their back-to-basics effervescent guitar pop
The band served huge success with the massive Worldwide hit and indie anthem I’m Free and with MTV award nominations and Top 20 hit records especially in USA under their belts, they rocked many a live stage for years.
In the Winter of 2022 the band reactivated their influential ‘RAW TV PRODUCTS’ record label and in partnership with the mighty ‘LAST NIGHT FROM GLASGOW’ released their all-killer-no-filler compilation album RAW TV PRODUCTS (SINGLES AND RARITIES 1985-88) a dayglo overview of their highly successful pre-I’m Free Indie years.
The album went Top 5 in the Scottish album charts, garnered plaudits aplenty, and the ensuing wave of enthusiasm and goodwill that engulfed the band convinced them to bring their music back to the stage once more.
The Soup Dragons were leading lights in the so-called C-86 Music Scene – named after an NME-produced cassette compilation of bands that were all coming through at the same time. It was a musical hotch-potch of different styles and genres but for the band it was an ideal springboard to get their irresistibly melodic punky pop music out into the mainstream.
‘We were all teenagers at the time!’, recalls lead singer Sean Dickson, ‘we hit the ground running and basically made it up as we went along…we didn’t follow the rules then and we still don’t.’
‘We’re aiming to capture the energy and sound of those early records’ states guitarist Jim McCulloch “and to do what we did best -playing live and loud!
