The Morning Star team return to the Trades Club for one of their Sunday gatherings. With The Flat 5 Band playing mainstream jazz with a leaning towards the less well known standards. Extract’s from Geoff Winde’s spoken word Money is as Innocent as the Sun featuring Jake Madhatter Caswell. Plus acclaimed singer-songwriter Duncan Evans with folk music and post-punk forming the backdrop for songs of love and loss, despair and hope, darkness and light. The upcoming new album – Prayers for an Absentee – is an exploration of saudade; each song is a kind of prayer of yearning or nostalgia for things no longer here.
In other words the regular mix of excellent music, food, stalls, Cuban raffle and politics, all for a fiver or less.
“There are a lot of spoken word artists who play with a backup band of some kind. Not so many that do both spoken word and music at the same time — and do both things brilliantly. Geoff Winde might just be the philosopher-poet-musician you didn’t know you were looking for.” (David Rovics)
