Calderdale TUC May Day Rally
One of the greatest changes facing humanity is climate change and its effects are ever more apparent. Whilst politicians and Governments seem to backtrack from previous world agreements students staged walkouts from schools across Britain, impatient with the pace of change. Here in Calderdale we have seen two serious floods in recent years and millions spent on flood defences, but is this enough? Do unions put manufacturing jobs above the need to combat climate change? What is the demand for 1 million climate change jobs to be created and what is ‘Just Transition’?
Speakers: Jackie Green, Chair of the PCS NEC Climate Change and Environment Committee on the solutions that trade unions are advocating to the climate crisis, and the PCS ‘Just Transition’ campaign for good, unionised, sustainable jobs for current and future workers; Helen Chuntso, local climate change and anti-fracking campaigner; Local school student who took part in #YouthStrike4Climate. Chair: Rowena Fehilly, Vice-Chair of Calderdale TUC.
There will be time for audience Q&A/contributions!
