I FEEL LIKE A BOMBED CATHEDRAL is the new project from Amaury Cambuzat – founder of French avant-garde experimentalists ULAN BATOR and guitarist with legendary Krautrockers faUSt.
IFLABC conjure up improvised dark and mystic soundscapes from electric guitar and a range of effects pedals. The result is exciting, tense, moving and immersive.
‘The electric guitar stands as analogue to the cathedral: a blown-out shell echoing with imposing history, lineage, collapse, and eternal potential.
The sounds whisked up around us, from the most minimal to the most densely symphonic, remind us we stand in a place dedicated to the profound.
Amaury’s approach throughout I FEEL LIKE A BOMBED CATHEDRAL speaks to his memories and lived experience – graduation from the classical conservatory in western Paris, his discovery of the guitar at age fourteen, his lifelong quest to infuse this instrument with fresh life.
‘I FEEL LIKE A BOMBED CATHEDRAL is a testament to the past, to desecrated presents, and to the sacred horizon that is the future… The unchanging future which is always hope of change.’
[Nick Soulsby, author of Swans: Sacrifice And Transcendence, 2018].
Support comes from local krautrock-infused experimentalists, Lines of Silence, who met and jammed with Amaury and Jean-Hervé Peron from FaUSt at a workshop at the base of the Pyrenees in May 2023. LoS’ sets are unpredictable and often involve a fair amount of improvisation, but expect a brew of motorik jams, electronic experimentalism and psychedelic guitar explosions, combined with live visuals.
