RIP Ian McHarg 28th December 1951 – 2nd April 2017:
We are very sorry to have to announce that Ian McHarg, who was Sound Engineer at The Trades Club for ten years, and a long-time friend of the club died on the 2nd of April 2017.
Some of his friends have contributed these words about Ian:
“We were very sorry to learn of the death of Ian McHarg on the 2nd April 2017
Ian worked at the Trades Club for many years and contributed hugely to our growth as a venue. He was a great sound engineer who loved his stage sounding right and worked hard to achieve perfection. He admired great musicians and was always ready to comment on how good the performers were – or weren’t at times! He loved good songwriters and always listened and took in the lyrics and meanings.
In his time, he sound engineered for Yes and for The Drifters. He recorded/produced Dick Gaughan’s album ‘Gaughan Live at the Trades Club’ and the Trades Club’s own ‘Trades Roots’ album.
He was also a good friend to many of us, staff and members, and we will miss his dry humour and acerbic wit. He was a kind and clever man when you got to know him and will be hugely missed.”
There will be an event to remember him at the Trades Club on Saturday 6th May, 2-6pm.
