Calderdale Trades Council Public Meeting – Hands Off Our Schools
7.30pm
Speakers include:
James Wilson, Calderdale NUT Division Secretary
Tim Cooper, Calderdale NASUWT
Charlotte Brady, local parent
Association for Public Service Excellence representative
We are also hoping that a Teaching Assistants’ TU representative will speak at the meeting.
The publicity leaflet for the meeting can be downloaded from http://calderdaletuc.org.uk.
Under current Government policy: Schools are facing a funding crisis. As a result Teaching Assistant jobs are already being cut. It is feared that changes to the School Funding Formula will leave some schools in deprived areas even worse off.
The Government still wants all schools in the public sector to become academies. Converting to academies effectively means that schools are privatised and nationally negotiated conditions for staff are eroded.
SATs tests in Primary Schools have become too hard – in May, School Students in Hebden Bridge and elsewhere staged a strike against SATs.
Please come to this important public meeting to hear more about the threats to our children’s education and discuss what we can do to defend our schools from these Government attacks.
