The Sunday Salon invites you to enjoy a louche and relaxed afternoon of music, book readings, songs and poetry. Our special guest artist is the wonderful Amy Rigby. Amy has established herself as one of America’s enduring underground/cult/indie artists, combining the insight and humour of country and folk songwriting with classic rock craftsmanship and punk DIY spirit.
Amy will be reading from and launching her new memoir Girl to Country.

‘Amy Rigby’s unfiltered self-portrait is a testament to friendship, the power of songs, the corrosive effects of bad boyfriends and the possibility of finding true love in middle age.’ Jim Wirth, MOJO

Our House Band is the fabulous The Sentimentalists and our guest support artist is the suedehead bard of Halifax, Keiron Lee Higgins. Keiron will be reading from his new book Subculture Vulture Volume 2: The B-side.

There will be free snacks and plenty of time to schmooze and chat.

Amy Rigby has established herself as one of America’s enduring underground/cult/indie artists, combining the insight and humour of country and folk songwriting with Classic Rock craftsmanship and Punk DIY spirit. Raised in Pittsburgh, schooled in late-70s lower Manhattan, she formed pre-Americana country band Last Roundup and Richard Hell’s favourite girl group The Shams in NYC’s East Village before launching a solo career with 90s classic album Diary Of A Mod Housewife.

Amy’s honest, kinetic songwriting has earned her praise from critics (‘pithy wisdom, acerbic pen and sterling American guitar classicism‘ MOJO) and other artists: ‘Think Randy Newman and Loudon Wainwright, at their best,’. Her songs have been covered by Laura Cantrell, Ronnie Spector and Maria Doyle Kennedy. Her 2024 album Hang In There With Me was called ‘an absolute masterpiece’ in Louder Than War. Rigby has toured internationally for years and is the author of two memoirs: GIRL TO CITY (2019) and the follow-up, GIRL TO COUNTRY (2026).

GIRL TO COUNTRY: A Memoir

‘A rocking, rolling journey from new-wave New York, through Nashville, on to England …moving and very funny.’ Record Collector

‘As compelling a storyteller on the page as she is on the stage, Rigby is an engaging and likeable narrator, disarmingly frank and funny whether discussing sex, parenthood and family dysfunction or the trials and doubts of an independent touring musician…’ Shindig

‘Amy Rigby’s unfiltered self-portrait is a testament to friendship, the power of songs, the corrosive effects of bad boyfriends and the possibility of finding true love in middle age.’ MOJO
