Pale Blue Eyes’ third album, New Place, embodies transformation, shaped by a year of movement and personal change. In 2024, the band toured 12 European countries with Slowdive before Matt and Lucy Board, the married duo at PBE’s core, relocated from Devon to Sheffield following family tragedy. Their first two albums, Souvenirs (2022) and This House (2023), were recorded at their self-built studio in Matt’s family home. When Matt’s mother passed away, the home was sold, forcing a relocation. This shift brought Lucy back to her Sheffield roots, where she had played in teenage bands. Continuing the band’s connection to the city, New Place was mixed and mastered by Sheffield-based producer Dean Honer, known for his work with Moonlandingz, The Human League, Róisín Murphy, and more.
The band’s journey has been marked by both joy and deep loss. Their debut single in 2021, Motionless/Chelsea, led to a signing with Full Time Hobby, and their first two albums garnered critical acclaim, with MOJO calling This House ‘compelling confirmation of their standing as pop auteurs.’ New Place, released on the band’s Broadcast Recordings label, features contributions from Tom Sharkett (W.H. Lung) and Lewis Johnson-Kellett. As Matt reflects, the album is about embracing new beginnings while cherishing the past—symbolised by the use of an old family slide projector image for the album cover, bridging memories with the band’s evolving journey.
