1990s folk-rock band Gaelforce has re-formed and will show it’s lost none of its mastery of pounding Celtic rhythms when it headlines at Calder Valley Morning Star supporters’ benefit gig at the Trades on Sunday afternoon, October 14 (2pm to 6pm). Gaelforce have been described as “somewhere between Fairport Convention and Jethro Tull.” The band formed in 1989 and recorded three albums. The re-formed band comprises frontman, fiddler and singer Chris Dyson, Eddy Green, ex Dave Burlands Shagpile, on bass, Geoff Taylor on guitars, Matt Kirton, former drummer with Shane McGowan’s band, and multi-instrumentalist and singer Huw Evans. The band promises “rocked up trad Irish songs and tunes and self-composed songs.”
Support comes from leading solo folk musician and singer-songwriter Duncan Evans from Leeds, plus extracts from Geoff Winde’s spoken word MONEY IS AS INNOCENT AS THE SUN.
In other words the regular mix of excellent music, home-made veggie curry, and raffle with prizes from Cuba, all for a fiver!
