The Moonlandingz have returned seven years after their debut, when they emerged as a semi-fictional band offering sticky pop solace following Brexit and Trump. Their 2017 album Interplanetary Class Classics, made with Yoko Ono and Phil Oakey, was unreality equal to unhinged times.
No Rocket Required delivers brassy squawks and sinister vocals from Nadine Shah, Iggy Pop, Jessica Winter and Ewen Bremner. Front man Johnny Rocket aka Lias Saoudi channels everything from R Whites’ lemonade drinker to Kris Kristofferson of the Pennines, but mostly he’s the gravelly crooner we know from Fat White Family.
On It’s Where I’m From, Iggy Pop offers tender solidarity – ‘won’t someone put their arms around me, I cannot take the pain of those who’ve gone’ – with guileless vulnerability.
The album is cosmic on a human scale, Carl Sagan admiring hectic carpets in a vommy town-centre disco. As we watch destruction while leaders shrug their shoulders, we need to organise, fight, collaborate and dance. That’s what The Moonlandingz do.
BITCH COIN
An experimental duo featuring composer Aisling Davis and performance artist Katie Fitzgerald, blending satire, performance art, and electronics—where Aphex Twin meets Brass Eye in a warped, late-night variety show.
Unpredictable and provocative, their work fuses glitch-heavy sound, DIY instruments, and dystopian humour, with nods to Armando Iannucci and the surreal spectacle of mukbang culture. Their performances walk the line between chaos and commentary—equal parts sonic assault, media parody, and unhinged cabaret.
