Presenting songs of melancholy, dark humour and gentle defiance, The Sentimentalists stand for lyricism, lovely music, and character. Mark Radcliffe (BBC radio) recently described Sentimentalists as ‘truly marvellous’. Mark Coles (BBC radio) said ‘beautiful…in a miserable way’, guitarist Pete Greenway from The Fall described Sentimentalists as ‘the band that the world is waiting for’
Despite featuring musicians from Acoustic Alchemy, The Mission, Magna Carta, The Only Ones, Kiki Dee’s band, Brendan Croker’s band and “Songs Of Praise”, they sound nothing like any of those, or all of those at the same time. Expect ‘A northern moralistic Ian Dury’; ‘Tindersticks meet Divine Comedy’; ‘Alan Bennett meets Sparklehorse’; ‘Like The Smiths and The Beautiful South, a perfectly mis-matched blend of edgy lyrics and upbeat melodies’ (Yorkshire Post).

Deaf musician and Community Arts Specialist Amy-Rose Atkinson has been immersed in theatre since early childhood and joined the family business as a professional musician aged just 11. Being exposed to and having to become competent in such a wide variety of music from traditional Irish and Scottish ceilidh music, to dinner dance jazz, via every corner of Rock ‘n’ Roll, meant that Amy-Rose developed a mish-mashed musical palette of glorious blues and dazzling musical theatre numbers.

Love Music Hate Racism (LMHR) uses the energy and vibrancy of the music scene to promote unity and celebrate diversity through education and events. Our message is simple, there is more that unites us than divides us; and nothing demonstrates this more than music.
Whatever the genre, music is living testimony to the fact that cultures can and do mix. Music has the power to unite, to give strength and to effect positive social change.
Racism, on the other hand, weakens us; it creates barriers and turns friends and neighbours against one another. Sadly, racism is on the rise in the UK and internationally. We believe that if we work together we can harness the power of music to stop this destructive force in its tracks.
Our aim is to use the power of music to bring together individuals and communities in a beautiful resistance against bigotry and hatred. Join the movement. Get involved.
