The Strokes’ debut studio album Is This It, celebrates its 21st birthday in July 2022. Gordon Raphael, the producer who ‘discovered’ the band and helped them create their unique sound, has written a behind-the-scenes tale of his work as a musician in Seattle and as a music producer in New York and London, pre-gentrification, when the streets of Shoreditch and the Lower East Side were as dangerous as the music.
Legendary music producer, Gordon Raphael has worked with The Strokes, Regina Spektor, The Libertines and The Psychedelic Furs. He has produced songs with Hinds, Skunk Anansie lead singer Skin and Mexico’s top band, Fobia.
