Sounds by:
Supriya Nagarajan. Dewsbury based sound artist and artistic director of Manasamitra who are a Yorkshire based arts organisation delivering a range of South Asian arts and cultural experiences in traditional and innovative ways.
Supriya will be presenting her piece entitled “Frangipani nights” which is an evocative piece set in a sultry summer night in India and brings electronic music and voice together using chants and music.
We are proud to present two sound artists commissioned by CSWN to create new pieces of music responding to the theme of ‘The Valley’:
Lisa Lavery, based in Sowerby Bridge, has played bass guitar in bands for many years and is now interested in exploring solo sound collage work. Lisa intends to capture the sense of community that exists in The Valley, both historical and present, through use of household objects, transistor radios, field recordings and traditional musical elements.
Anna Taylor, based in Todmorden, is coming to the project from a background in visual art. For many years, Anna has been documenting The Valley through a series of photography and texts entitled ‘Backburner Journal’. For this project she intends to draw upon her experience as a violin player to create a new audio visual work bringing these interests together.
Also there will be a group of musicians from the CSWN group performing a piece we collectively wrote last year based on a sound talk around Todmorden.
The show is free but donations are appreciated.
