1991 Rave at The Trades is super proud to announce the guest DJ for the next event is…JUMPIN JACK FROST
One of the original old school DJs Frost started out in the 80’s mixing funk, hip hop and breakbeats and then progressed into the acid house scene and playing at the renowned Carwash parties and went on to become a prominent presence in the scene alongside other DJ’s, such as Fabio, Grooverider, Bryan Gee and Pete Stewart.
It’s 1989. The rave scene explodes. Frost is one of the earliest exponents of this new youth culture movement, the likes of which has not been seen in the UK since Punk. The rave scene enables Jumpin’ Jack Frost the artistic freedom to explore and develop new styles of music reflecting his personality and influences.
It’s 1994 and raves have been outlawed by the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. This does little to stem the youth culture movement, a culture driven by the need to escape the economic and social hardships affecting UK society at that time. Raves have migrated to the club scene. Frost regularly appears at The Fridge, the iconic Brixton venue and plays alongside Ellis Dee, Paul Trouble Anderson and evil Eddie Richards and goes on to headline many legendary events of the era, including Sunrise and Energy.
Soon Frost is gracing the decks in venues as famous as BCM in Magaluf, Johnny Depp’s LA club The Viper Room and making regular appearances on the Ibiza circuit alongside Carl Cox. Add this to his gig with The Prodigy and Frost’s legendary status in the dance scene is cemented.
In the mid 90’s Jumpin’ Jack Frost forms the record label Philly Blunt and joins forces with Brian Gee who forms V Recordings. Together they create a platform from which they release their own music productions. Through this medium, they also help launch the careers of the likes of Roni Size, DJ Marky and Patife.
And that’s where Frost stands in the scene to this day. Frost remains an active part of the scene, performing, mixing and smashing the floors of clubs and festivals worldwide and now he’s coming to The Trades!
This one is not to be missed!!
