James McMurtry is a critically acclaimed American singer-songwriter and guitarist known for his literate, hard-edged character studies and astute political commentary within the Americana and roots rock genres. Born in 1962 and the son of legendary novelist Larry McMurtry, James emerged onto the music scene in 1989 with his debut album, Too Long in the Wasteland, which was co-produced by John Mellencamp. Throughout his decades-long career, he has garnered immense respect for his lyrical precision in songs like Choctaw Bingo and the socio-political anthem We Can’t Make It Here, the latter of which won Song of the Year at the 2006 Americana Music Awards. Often performing with his longtime band, the Heartless Bastards, McMurtry continues to be a formidable voice in independent music, most recently releasing highly praised work such as The Horses and the Hounds (2021) and The Black Dog and the Wandering Boy (2025/2026).
BettySoo is an Austin-based singer-songwriter known for her powerful vocal phrasing and ability to blend Folk, Country, and Rock traditions. A multi-award winner, she has gained acclaim through solo works like When We’re Gone and her collaborative project, Nobody’s Girl. She tours internationally and frequently performs as dedicated support for renowned artists such as James McMurtry and Chris Smither.
