Starting his career in comedy as an impressionist in the late eighties, Rob Newman achieved fame when he and fellow Cambridge students David Baddiel, Hugh Dennis, and Steve Punt appeared in the BBC radio and television show The Mary Whitehouse Experience (1989–92). This program was named in tribute to Mary Whitehouse, renowned for her campaign on moral decency in media.
He writes and performs regular BBC Radio 4 shows including: Rob Newman’s Half Full Philosophy Hour; Total Eclipse of Descartes and The Entirely Accurate Encyclopaedia of Evolution, the latter two of which won the BBC Audio Drama Award for best comedy. He has also written four novels and two non-fiction books. Seventeen years ago he coined the phrase No Planet B, which has since entered the language.
His last show, Live On Stage, received excellent reviews, with the Evening Standard calling him ‘one of comedy’s most skilled performers’ and The Guardian saying ‘His shows are a joy to watch, a workout for the mind as well as the funny bone.’
This event is fully booked.
