A.A. Williams is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter who made her first appearance at the Roadburn Festival in 2019 and hasn’t stopped since.
After one self-titled EP and the 10-inch vinyl collaboration Exit in Darkness with Japanese post-rockers MONO, London-based Williams signed to Bella Union.
Her debut album, Forever Blue, smouldered with uncoiling melodies and haunted atmospheres, shifting from serenity to explosive drama, often within the same song.
The pandemic saw A.A. Williams turn her creativity to arranging – first by stripping back other artists’ tracks to their most delicate bones on her Songs from Isolation covers album, and then with a complete reimagining of material from her own debut EP, which became arco.
Having headlined London’s iconic Queen Elizabeth Hall just prior to the new album’s release, Williams undertook her first comprehensive headline tour: a 6-week trek across the UK and Europe, taking in 34 shows over 12 countries. A BBC Maida Vale session and cover feature with Kerrang! Magazine swiftly followed. Williams’ journey may have been held up by events, but in all other aspects, everything that culminates in As The Moon Rests is incontrovertible proof that it continues to build and thrive.
