Chosen as one of BBC Radio 6 Music’s Albums of the Year 2021 and Stuart Maconie’s Presenter Pick, Cobalt Chapel’s second album Orange Synthetic is a captivating blend of curious influences and addictive melodies: their own unique brand of powerful psych-folk. After their beguiling debut Cobalt Chapel, their latest album explores the folklore, humanity, nature and landscape of Yorkshire, the epic county they call home. Their lyrical themes tell obscure and intriguing tales: the disastrous 1970 Krumlin Festival, the drowning of a village under Lake Semerwater, the lost geodesic domes of RAF Fylingdales on the N York Moors, and a warped folk song about a murdered Calderdale farmer. Formed in 2014, Cecilia Fage (Matt Berry & The Maypoles, Maps) and Jarrod Gosling (I Monster, Regal Worm) have established themselves as artists outside of genre conventions, with a compelling live experience combining cut-glass multi-layered vocals, effects, organs, and unforgettable hooks.
